Z Special Unit (/ zɛd /) was a joint Allied special forces unit formed during the Second World War to operate behind Japanese lines in South East Asia.

Z Force (Z Special Unit) During WW2 there were 2 military groups called Z Force. The first was a spectacular disaster. The British battle-ships HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse were designated Z Force. Both were sunk off Singapore by Japanese bombers.

In June 1942, the Australian service personnel in ISD were administered by a holding company known as "Z" Special Unit. "Z" Special Unit mostly used American equipment rather than British. The unit was sometimes incorrectly referred to as "Z" Force.
