The ZAZ-969 (also called LuAZ-969) is a Soviet four-wheel drive automobile built by the Zaporizhia Automobile Building Plant. [1] The first Soviet vehicle with front wheel drive, it was based on the LuAZ-967. [1]

ZAZ Zaporozhets (Russian: Запоро́жец pronunciation ⓘ) was a series of rear-wheel-drive superminis (city cars in their first generation) designed and built from 1958 at the ZAZ factory in Soviet Ukraine. Different models of the Zaporozhets, all of which had an air-cooled engine in the rear, were produced until 1994.

In 1965, LuMZ starts the assembly of ZAZ-969 originally developed at Zaporizhzhia Automobile Building Plant. The first vehicle with original an design to be produced was the LuAZ-967 amphibious vehicle for the Red Army. [4]
