Feb 24, 2006 · M950 was the original setup for 8 speed. For M951 they beefed up the arms but still 8 speed. M952 were the same arms as M951 but with Mega-9 rings. There should be a slight difference between the M950 and the M952 arms. Spline is the same for all of them and are all interchangeable.

I've read that some people really love the m952 because of the plates? where as the newer 960/970's are stiffer and offer dual pull. locally, there's a m970 for $50, and a m952 for $45.

Jul 10, 2004 · So to recap, M952 and M953 as well as the latest generation of M960 are nine speed. M950 and M951 are eight speed. As a 8 speed hold out, I am absolutely positive on this.
