Apr 6, 2024 · Accuracy on factory rifles is on a case by case basis imo. But I'd double check the barrel twist on Winchesters in 264 Win. They can be pretty slow so you might not be able to shoot the heavier bullets. Good luck!. BTW I love Winchester model 70's.

Jul 18, 2021 · All of our model 70s are pretty decent shooters for being lightweight. 1 inch three shot groups with certain factory ammo or under 1 inch with handloads. Federal cheap powershock 130 grain are the cheapest and best shooting we have found. Ours don't seem to like hornady factory ammo and are closer to 2 inch groups. They warm up fast.

Oct 22, 2023 · If Winchester actually diversified and made rifles for the current market with short threaded barrels I'd probably have more Model 70's. And it's not just the Model 70, they have some of the best lever action designs ever made but none of them have thought to offer them with threaded barrels and shotgun stocks.

Jan 29, 2013 · Yes, a Model 70 is a Model 70. . I meant, you could most likely pick up a very nice pre-war M-70 for the $$$ or less than you might spend on a "New" iteration of the M-70. Your project sounds like an exciting one.

Mar 5, 2014 · I have a Winchester Model 70 Extreme SS in a 30-06 that is only a few years old, but I reload and shoot a LOT. I think my barrel may be coming to the end it's life in the near future. I have been very happy with accuracy to this point as I am getting .3 to .5" 100 yard groups shooting Hornady ELDX in 178 grains using H4350 running at 2793fps.

Aug 8, 2008 · Winchester was going through some serious financial problems in the post 64 era and decided that the solution was to make a cheaper receiver. I own a lot of different actions including one push feed model 70 in .338wm. My favorite action of all though is the modern CRF second only to the pre 64.

Apr 24, 2014 · Yes it was/is a common problem with the Model 70's in the WSSM's. I had the same issues several years ago with a 223 WSSM Coyote with chambering issues and bolt problems, including rust inside the bolt. The throat and chamber clearly appeared to be cooked in less than 100 rounds. It was a new rifle. Sent the rifle to Winchester(New Haven).
