Jan 27, 2013 · Should I use a larger shaft? what is the proper technique to weld the auger flighting? You can stretch / twist them to make them fit tighter, not any easy task but that will probably snug it up. Watch about welding long beads as it can bow the tube. Most important weld is the top / discharge end.

Feb 24, 2011 · When welding the flighting back on your tube simply tack weld every 12" or 18" (use the old weld pattern as a guide). Be sure to rotate the weld spots around the shaft so they are not all on one side. Overwelding or welding on one side can cause the tube to warp.

Oct 5, 2023 · Remove the old auger and take it to a welding shop that does this stuff a lot. As others have said you will need to stretch it. Most flighting is cupped so make sure you get it on the right way. The flighting is usually harder than your weld so weld on the back side away from the grain or your welds may wear off before flighting is worn.
