The Gewehr 41 semi-automatic rifles, also and perhaps more popularly known as the G41 semi-automatic rifles, were developed by two firms, Mauser and Walther, with some differences. As time would tell, the Mauser design, G41 (M), was a failure, and production ceased after only 6,673 were produced, of which 1,673 were returned as unusable.
