Mar 21, 2011 · WSD replaces the TCP functions with it's own delivery controls. to use WSD you MUST supply the IP address and because it uses TCP as a fallback when WSD isnot working correctly, TCP protocol is also set up for the printer. WSD devices will try to use WSD and IP, if it isn't working it will try TCP and IP to transfer the data.

What I found is that any printer configured with a WSD port in the printer port settings has far more issues than printers which use straight TCP IP version 4 addresses. I mention ipv4 because I think that somehow the WSD port automatically switches to ipv6 for some reason.

Jun 3, 2021 · Eventually I tracked the problem down to the WSD port. I would change the port to TCP/IP with the correct IP address and it would work fine... once. Then it insists on resetting the port to WSD, and then I print and nothing happens. I have to keep resetting the port to TCP/IP to get it to work. Clearly WSD is the problem.
