Writing a Prequalified WPS - American Welding Society
Sep 29, 2010 · I am unsure how to write a prequalified WPS using D1.1. I want my students to do an open root on 3/8 plate with 6010 root and 7018 fill and cover. Is there a prequalified proceedure that covers this, or do I have to buy a WPS?

6010 vs 7018 Hotpass - Miller Welding Discussion Forums
I'm aware that putting in a hot pass with 7018 can be more prone to slag inclusions and incomplete fusion depending on how the root and subsequent grinding of the root went. When a WPS has a root pass of 6010, that has a max deposition of 1/2"thick, and the fill/cap requires 7018 would/could you justify a hot pass with 6010 as long as it does ...

Prequalified Procedure SMAW 6010/7018 - American Welding …
Jul 16, 2009 · ASTM A36 can be welded with E6010 as long as the preheat is in accordance with Table 3.2 for the thickness being welded. Likewise, E7018 can be used as well, but the preheat requirements are somewhat lower for a given thickness when compared to the E6010.
Notes, Technique or Code Guidance: -Number of passes varies based on joint configuration, position, electrode size, travel speed, and weld technique. -First pass should be large enough to minimize the possibility of cracking.
