Welcome to Vance Air Force Base and the 71st Student Squadron (STUS)! Team Vance trains more than 370 Air Force and allied student pilots each year. As the fourth busiest airfield in the Air Force, Vance operates approximately 200 T-1 Jayhawk, T-6 Texan II, and T-38 Talon aircraft flying over 50,000 sorties and 74,000 hours every year.

Aug 19, 2020 · Vance Air Force Base is named for Lt. Col. Leon R. Vance, a local World War II hero and Medal of Honor recipient. Originally a flight school that trained more than 9,000 pilots for the Army Air Corps between 1941 and 1945, the base was activated Jan. 13, 1948 within the Air Training Command of the newly formed Air Force.
