Feb 12, 2025 · How long in the press depends upon the glue you are using. The glue I use says to press for 45-60 minutes and then pull it out to cure. I've heard that leaving it in the press for too long can interfere with proper curing. Besides, I don't want my press pumping up and down all night long so I love the short clamp time. So far so good.

Jan 16, 2009 · I released the vacuum from the press yesterday after 5 hours and the glue was only just set up and the joints started to let go. I put them back in the press and left it over night and this morning it is fine, but the glue still isn't hard. I'm assuming that it is like this because in a vacuum things that need air to dry have a problem doing so.

Feb 12, 2025 · The process, start to finish, of getting 4 panels ready and in the press was about 30 minutes. It looks to me like there was not enough pressure to compress the canvas to get a good press. I used the aboue glue and pressing on a single panel and it worked fine.

Feb 12, 2025 · The spacing of the cells in the core material is too far apart to withstand any pressure. The problem with a more rigid cover sheet that would span the door is that the skin would not push back up enough to give the veneer a good bond. My experience is that a vacuum press will crush the door like a piece of wonder bread. Darryl

Jul 21, 2007 · Especially for smaller carcases, one can press veneer with cauls and hand clamps, but if the plan is to produce any volume at all a vacuum press is a lifesaver. My immediate sugestion would be to get some raw maple veneer and make a test pressing with your same adhesive and process.
