The squadron was redesignated VFA-27 on 24 January 1991. On 6 June 1991, the CNO approval was for the modification of the squadron designation in the banner from Attack Squadron 27 to Strike Fighter Squadron 27.

Oct 22, 2022 · The Royal Maces of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 27 were awarded the 2014 COMNAVAIRPAC Battle "E" award. On August 18, 2015, VFA-27 changed carriers after seven years of deployments aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) to their new home aboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN-76).
