The Vickers VC10 is a mid-sized, narrow-body long-range British jet airliner designed and built by Vickers-Armstrongs (Aircraft) Ltd and first flown at Brooklands, Surrey, in 1962.

Feb 25, 2010 · Just the sort of landing constrictions the VC10 was designed for. We flew onto R.A.F. Akrotiri on Cyprus before landing at Lyneham on a cold October day. My Dad and my younger brother walked out onto the apron where the aircraft had been chocked up just to gaze up at the beast we had flown across the world in.

May 19, 2021 · My impression was that the flight crew used reverse thrust as an airbrake because we were avoiding some other country's airspace (possibly Egypt's) in order to enter the very limited friendly airspace around Cyprus, hence the steep descent.

17 Aug 72 Initial work for the squadron were scheduled route flights, five times per week to RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus and four per week to the Far East via Akrotiri, Gan, Singapore and Hong Kong, plus twice-weekly schedules to Washington DC, using Dulles International airport.
