Welcome to the Official Government Site of the Town of Tryon, NC Celebrating over 125 years as “The Friendliest Town in the South.” Tryon, North Carolina, is nestled at the base of the Blue Ridge Escarpment in the Thermal Belt region of western North Carolina.

With its unique natural beauty and delightful downtown, Tryon is a great place to live, work and visit. Tryon is the largest town on the Western North Carolina Blue Ridge (if you consider a population of 1,600 large).

The Town of Tryon is structured under the council-manager form of government. Town voters elect a Mayor and four Commissioners to the Board of Commissioners to govern the Town. The Board is responsible for making legislative policy decisions for the Town.

The Town of Tryon maintains many acres of parks and recreational facilities for the public to enjoy: Bryan Park (510 Markham Road) One of Tryon’s newest parks, this park was developed with the assistance of grants from the Polk County Community Foundation.

The Town of Tryon was chartered by the North Carolina General Assembly and established as an incorporated municipality in 1885. With the support of residents, the first part of 3.3 acres, located at 425 Markham Road, was bought in 1892 as a donation to the town for a public cemetery.
