THYMOVAR is a product to control the Varroa mite (Varroa destructor) on bees (Apis mellifera) and contains the essential oil thymol. THYMOVAR contains thymol, a volatile substance which sublimates in the air depending on temperature. On release, thymol vapour concentrations build up in the treated beehive.

Thymovar is for the treatment of varroosis of honey bees. The active ingredient, Thymol supports bees in the fight against the Varroa Destructor mite. The evaporation of thymol creates concentrations in the hive air that are toxic to Varroa.

Thymovar ® is formulated on cellulose wafers, each containing 15g of thymol. On release, thymol vapour concentrations build up in the treated beehive. The effect of Thymovar was absolutely comparable with that of Api-Life-Var. With an average effectiveness of 85% to 97% in the various apiaries, Varroa mites can be successfully controlled with Thymovar. Under optimal conditions, in some cases a treatment success of 99% can be expected. On the whole there was considerable scatter among the results.

Thymovar are cellulose sponge strips containing 15g Thymol, a natural plant oil. Thymol is toxic to varroa mite but not bees therefore kills the mite parasites without harming the bees.
