Jan 31, 2024 · The sinotubular junction (STJ) is the region of the ascending aorta between the aortic sinuses (of Valsalva) and where the normal tubular configuration of the aorta is attained. It marks the junction of the aortic root and ascending aorta.

Dilatation of the sinotubular junction (STJ) causes aortic regurgitation (AR) in patients with ascending aneurysm. These patients can regain valve competence by simple reduction of the diameter of STJ. Results of this technique were investigated clinically and echocardiographically.

Parameters such as diameter of the ventricular-aortic (VA) junction, aortic root, and sinotubular (ST) junction as well as effective height (eH) and geometric height (gH) of each cusp can be more objectively and accurately assessed using 3D echocardiography than 2-dimensional echocardiography.

Sinotubular junction (STJ) can be easily measured by a non-contrast CTA. We sought to assess the correlation between the STJ and aortic annular measurements in predicting TAVR valve sizing in patients undergoing TAVR in our institution.

In addition, 208 of the subjects had aortic root measurements performed at the aortic valve annulus, aortic sinuses and sino-tubular junction. Results. All subjects were normotensive (SBP 121±12, DBP 75±9 mmHg), normoglycaemic (4.8±0.5 mmol/l) and normocholesterolaemic (4.9±0.8 mmol/l) on the day of scanning.
