Sep 2, 2021 · The only other simple weapon types that match the damage of spear is the staff (1d6/1d8 versatile simple weapon) and greatclub (1d8 damage, 2 handed) Unless spears aren't versatile in the game (it's been a while since I've played), they and the quarterstaff are the best simple weapons.

A melee weapon with the thrown property does not become a ranged weapon. A spear definitely is a monk weapon and can be used as such. And yes to the second part; the only requirement for that bonus attack is that you use the attack action with an unarmed strike or monk weapon.

Some of Sword's hammers add more damage than Spear's hammers (the double nova one in particular is amazing), but now you're talking very specific builds you have no way of controlling.

Sep 5, 2023 · The weapon has the Finesse tag. Daggers, short swords and other sorta light-and-sneaky weapons will have the Finesse tag, which means they use Dex instead of Str. Some special weapons may have that tag even if other weapons of that type don't; there's a longsword towards the end of Act 1 that has the Finesse tag.

It's also important to note that many mods such as Vigilant, Winged Spear and few other mods that add spears have Animated Armoury patches which makes their weapons count as Pikes and they will also use Anchor Spear Animations.
