The GE U33C is a 6-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems between January 1968 and January 1975. [1] 375 examples of this locomotive were built for 11 North American railroads and one construction contractor. 5701 was wrecked and never wore the BN Cascade Green.

Jan 1, 2025 · The U33C was General Electric's first six-motored model to sport a noticeably flared rear radiator; needed to handle the unit's 3,300 horsepower. The model sold relatively well for GE with some 375 units out-shopped by the time production ended in 1975.

SP U33C 8752 at Nashville, Tennessee on an unknown day in June 1982, photo by Chuck Zeiler. This was one of 30 U33C's built on order 474-86001 (road #'s 8738-8767), this one built in March 1972 (c/n 38334).

SP U33C 8689 lays over at NS Oliver Yard in New Orleans, LA. The locomotive was parked in a spot where an unobptructed photo was not possible. Knowing that I may never have another opportunity to photograph an SP U33C I took a few shots anyway!

Jan 5, 2025 · SP U33C 8754 trundles by East Bridge Tower on a westbound train as it prepares to stop for a crew change at Central Avenue. When photographed here, it was among the very last of the railroad's 212 U33C's still in operation. The train's other units were GP35 6582, GP38-2 4807, and GP40-2 7963.
