Dec 27, 2015 · I was able to demo the AJ towers against the Sony Core tower (SS-CS3) as they were positioned side by side. Right away, I noticed the Sony's sounded much better with more detail. The sound-stage was also wider with a crisp sounding orientation. Not bright or shrill, but smoother sounding. Really surprised that it was a Sony tower speaker!

Jan 15, 2020 · Well that would actually work in the Sony's favour, because it's cheaper and it's already assembled and finished unlike the DIYSG kit. I saw that Erin caveat-ed his review in the comments section.. characterizing it as decent with EQ, if you have a means of dealing with the enclosure resonances (adding stuffing and/or damping to the walls).

Nov 21, 2018 · Yes the Sony's are bright but this issue is easily fixed, all i did was buy two sets for the price of one, removed the cheap vinyl, glued them together top to top (MTM style), and refinished the outside with some quarter inch cabinet plywood.

Oct 7, 2019 · The Sony are a very good speaker for their MSRP! However after hearing the DCM Time Piece 160S that Zieg linked above, I'd consider it a mistake to get the Sony's! Those $80/pr. DCM's are clearly better speakers and it is clearance deals like this that completely upset the association of sound quality to price.

Nov 26, 2020 · Getting a set of Sony SS-CS3 tower speakers for Christmas. Will have the matching center speaker and bookshelves for surrounds. My question is, to have the tweeter (and super tweeter) around my ear height when sitting (~42"), I'd need to raise the towers about 9".
