Skaro was the homeworld of the Thals, of the Kaleds, and infamously, of the Daleks. The latter came to be during the Thousand Year War between the Thals and Kaleds because of the actions of the Kaled scientist Davros.

In the programme's narrative, the planet Skaro suffered a thousand-year war between two societies: the Kaleds and the Thals. During this time-period, many natives of Skaro became badly mutated by fallout from nuclear weapons and chemical warfare.

In The Daleks (1963-64), Skaro is described as being the twelfth planet from its sun, and in Genesis of the Daleks (1975) it is stated that Skaro is situated in the "Seventh Galaxy".

The Cult of Skaro was an elite Dalek organisation that were "above and beyond the Emperor himself" and designed to "think as the enemy thinks". The Cult was thought to be merely a legend by the Tenth Doctor.

In The Magician’s Apprentice Skaro returned with Davros and the Supreme Dalek in command. Daleks from different eras were seen inside the city and hovering/flying outside the buildings.
