In many ways the Shorts Seamew predated the anti-submarine helicopter. However, not just ugly but dangerous to fly, it is probably a good thing it never got into service.

During the air display at Sydenham, Northern Ireland the aircraft entered a slow roll at 100 feet. The nose fell and the pilot seemed to be trying to finish with a half loop, but with insufficient height, the aircraft struck the runway nose first.

The Short Seamew was a short-lived carrier-borne aircraft developed for the Royal Navy. It never entered service, and despite 26 being built out of a total order of 60 aircraft, it was canceled before becoming operational.
