Best part is you can bypass the preamp to use the mic in “stock” mode if you don’t want to use the boost for a particular session.

Dec 6, 2024 · The one issue that engineers have had to battle with over the many years is the lower than normal output from these mics. If you don't feel comfortable doing the mod or don't have the tools to do it, you can send us your SM7B for modification.

Shure SM7B with ANSER mod from Trace Audio. This mod adds 25db of clean gain, completely transforming this microphone and allowing it to be used effectively even without an expensive mic pre-amp. This microphone is less than one year old and has not left my studio.
