Aug 24, 2008 · All SKS's as well as most common AK's use this system to vent/direct gas to a piston which activates the carrier and then cycles the spent case and chambers a live round. Gas port and accuracy - sksboards.com
Apr 30, 2016 · Hey guys so I was looking at the falks sks-fal hybrid thread. There was mention to the original sks gas port causing the original design to be less then ideally accurate. From my understanding it due to the location of the port causing unequal gas distribution behind the bullet.

Gas system shut off valve and all that?? First thing to check on an M59/66 is the gas valve and port. Assuming it is a standard SKS and not the M59/66, first thing to check is to make sure the recoil spring assembly is in the correct way. Squiggly end goes into the bolt carrier. Gas block and FSB install on Chinese SKS
Feb 21, 2014 · The gas block is in place but not pinned yet because I wanted to make sure it was on correctly. The gas port is not pinned yet and it isn't even set in place yet because I've had a hard time using a punch and a hammer to drift it in. No gas tube for the gun yet. Will have to order that in the future.
Chinese SKS will not eject cartridge
Feb 17, 2015 · Make sure your gas port is free and clear of any carbon build up. Not sure a pipe cleaner with CLP will remove the carbon build up. Get the actual gas port reamer tool or use a drill bit the correct size to clean out by hand. DON'T use a drill. Check for carbon build up inside the gas tube and make sure the piston has full and free travel in it.
