The GMD SD40-2F is a 3,000 horsepower (2,200 kW) C-C diesel locomotive built by General Motors Diesel. It was fundamentally an SD40-2 in a cowl unit full-width body. A total of 25 units were built solely for the Canadian Pacific Railway. They were delivered in 1988 and 1989, after the end of production for the regular SD40-2. [1]

They retained the same respective horsepower ratings but received a host of mechanical and electrical upgrades, with the most visible difference being the longer frame with HT-C trucks.

Here is SD40-2F #9024 trailing CMQ 3057 north on CMQ Job 420 in Brownville ME, bound for Millinocket. A solid set of barns for the eastbound was an unexpected treat. With the change to Daylight Savings Time, there was still some sunlight as Job 2 neared the former junction with the BAR. Arrival in Brownville Jct. though, would be well after dark.
