Aug 23, 2012 · If you swap belts, the carpet on the S5 is different from the S4 to accommodate the silly lap belt. If you swap in the S4 belts, you can hide it, it isn't very noticeable. OR, for true expert mode, get a carpet out of a Canadian s5 RX-7, they didn't use the mouse belts up there, so you can get s5 carpet colors without the missing piece.

Nov 25, 2009 · The easiest was to put a S5 engine into an S4 is to take everything off the S4 and put it on the S5 (front cover, intake, injectors, bac, tb, etc). I would recommend going through the extra trouble to use the S5 intake manifolds (either turbo or na). The S5 NA manifolds will make an additional 15 hp over the s4 by use of the variable intake.

Jul 24, 2012 · On my setup, I used a complete S5 intake with an S4 front cover and mechanical OMP, then made a cable to operate the lever. I have heard of making a hybrid S4/S5 intake like you mention (S4 lower with S5 upper to get the VDC), but honestly don't understand why you would. I'd just swap the whole S4 intake onto the S5 and be done with it.

Oct 13, 2008 · 2) The S5 GTU is the base model, the 1988 GTU is the lightweight sport model. Look for an S4 GXL as it has: clutch type limited slip, turbo brakes, turbo suspension, or search the forums and swap the parts in. (Everything is interchangeable from 86-91) I would avoid the S4 n/a non-GXL models as they came with 4-lugs.

Apr 27, 2015 · 2) The S4 intake is also restrictive. The S5 is much freer flowing and is a bolt on swap. It has a 'short runner' valve which can be wired to provide short or long runners. They are easy to tell apart; the S4 has a finned dynamic chamber, the S5's is not. S5 intake: The S5 intake is a lot LESS freer flowing.

I have a 1987 RX7 Turbo II lemons / chumpcar. We have a free flowing exhaust on the car and now the car is boosting to 12 psi. I took the turbo off and ported the internal wastegate. Now, the car will boost to 9.5 psi (when it is 50 degrees out). Stock boost is 7 psi. I would like to get down to 7 or 8 psi for reliability reasons.

Aug 25, 2010 · It's running a non-turbo 1990 RX7 13B, called an S5. I am using a hybrid fuel injection system with an S4 (1986-1988) ECM and a S5 (1989-1991) air flow meter. That's a common and well documented swap. I did all that so I could run a mechanical oil metering pump and ditch the S5 electronic oil metering pump which has some bad habits.

Apr 21, 2017 · Chris Several parts of that car make it look more like an S5 than an S4. Taillights for example. Sure it's not an '89? If it's an '87 it's had lots of grafting of newer-gen parts (entirely possible). I agree. Completely possible that someone grafted on almost every part from an S5 including the moldings and such, but highly unlikely.

Jan 12, 2015 · P.S. the front brakes you have are turbo front brakes. They are also any S4 rx7 with 5 bolt wheel front brakes. The S5 GTUS and turbo and GXL and VERT also had those brakes. It doesn't make a difference other than I can see spending less money from certain vendors by getting the GXL hardware as opposed to the Turbo hardware.
