882 Naval Air Squadron (882 NAS) was a Fleet Air Arm (FAA) naval air squadron of the United Kingdom's Royal Navy (RN). It was formed as a carrier based fighter squadron in July 1941 and served through the rest of the Second World War.

Martlet Is were ex-French & Belgian machines with fixed wings. The Martlet II was the first variant to feature folding wings, and thus the first to go to sea with the RN. Martlet IIIs were ex-Greek aircraft (themselves diverted from a USN order) also without wing folds, and spent most of their time in the Western Desert.

The squadron formed at RNAS Lee-on-Solent in November 1941 as a Fleet Fighter squadron with 6 Martlet Is. In February 1942, the squadron embarked on HMS Formidable, and provided cover for the operations against Madagascar in May 1942, …

The squadron was reformed in September 1942 at RNAS Donibristle with 12 Martlet IVs, embarking on HMS Victorious the following month to take part in the landings in North Africa.

No.882 Squadron officially formed at RNAS Donibristle on July 15th 1941 as a Fled Fighter squadron for use in an Escort Carrier. Intended equipment issue was to be 9 Martlet but only 5 arrived plus a number of Sea Hurricane Ib were received, these would be on strength until September 1942.

881 squadron formed at RNAS Lee-on-Solent on June 1st 1941 as a Fleet Fighter Squadron equipped with 6 Martlet fighters [1] and 8 pilots under the command of Lt-Cdr J.C. Cockburn RN.

Equipped with 6 Martlet IVs, the squadron joined HMS Victorious in February 1943, sailing through the Panama caal to join the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Six months were spent in that theatre including a sweep in the Coral Sea area in May, followed in June by support for landings by U.S. troops in the Middle Solomons.

Formed in No vember 1939 from 769 NAS Sea Gladiators which had been detached to RNAS Hatston to counter enemy attacks on Scapa, the squadron subsequently embarked on HMS Glorious in April 1940 to provide fighter patrols during ferrying operations of 269 Sqn.
