This post was asking if there will be no more firmware updates, causing potential security issues. Unfortunately seems no one can answer that. Maybe a netgear employee only since it says End of Life?

Jul 20, 2019 · I do not have SMBv1 enabled on my windows 10 machine, (ver 1809, build 17763.615) and I have no problem connecting to the R7000. Wthout the SMB 1.0/CIFS Client feature, there is no NetBIOS name resolution and no NetBIOS based discovery. Netgear has still not implemented WS-Discovery which would substitute this requirement.

Feb 20, 2014 · just got my R7000 working with WOL over internet by uninstalling the "Netgear Firewall Driver" from my network adapter. go into properties of your adapter, you should see Netgear firewall driver, select it and uninstall. My WOL hadnt worked for months (not on my prev WNDR4500 either), and only just got mine to work by doing this.

The r7000 shipped in 2013 so is 7 years old which is ancient by tech standards although a very well performing router. Had one when they came out and worked well, however, Netgear has managed to take an excellent router and turn it into a pile of cra& with firmware updates.
