Nov 8, 2003 · I got my R1(first bike) almost 2 1/2 years ago. Put over 20,000 miles on it and im still ok. not saying it is a wise choice to get an R1 for your first bike, speaking from experience of course. but I love it. I took it to a track day at willow springs about 2 months ago and had a blast.

Oct 30, 2018 · This for me is the single biggest challenge with an R1 as a first bike. You pull out to overtake something and before you realize it you are doing 145mph and running out of road - ask me how I know!! On the flip side, it weighs less, will handle better and stop faster than just about any "sensible starter bike".

Oct 3, 2024 · That is a great-looking bike! One of the best-looking R1 models. I have an '04 R1. It runs but needs engine attention. A Yamaha dealer replaced the stator, and I had more frequent maintenance/services, but after a few years, the engine started making a noise, so I took it back to the dealer, and they mentioned that it might be a spun bearing.
