The Type 77 heavy machine gun or Type 85 is a Chinese 12.7×108mm heavy machine gun. [1]

The QJZ-89, also known as the Type 89 heavy machine gun, is a heavy machine gun designed in the People's Republic of China which fires the Soviet 12.7×108mm ammunition. [1]

The Type 77 is fitted with fully adjustable open sights, plus it has provisions for mounting various telescopic, night vision and special AA sights. 12.7mm Type 85 HMG installed on a Chinese truck, exported to an unidentified African country.

The Type 77 Heavy Machine Gun (HMG) is a relatively late indigenous development of the Chinese military during the Cold War. This type was designed as a large-caliber heavy machine gun for use against low-flying aircraft (including helicopters) and lightly armored vehicles.

The Type 77 fires the 12.7x108mm Soviet round from 50 round belts. It is able to fire the standard Chinese Type 54 round as well as more modern armor piercing ammunition. The cyclic rate of fire is rather high at 650 to 700 rounds per minute.
