Actually no. Rumors of pikablu sprung even before yellow came out. I never even had the concept of a new generation on pokemon coming out. There were an abundant amount of pokemon cheat sites that claimed you could get it in r/b. And when yellow came out a lot of speculation about it finally making an appearance.

Jul 15, 2022 · The rumor of Pikablu came from people seeing Marill, and it spread throughout the entire country. Of course, it's always possible that your memories might be a little muddled (gen 2 is 22 years old), but the rumor didn't exist before Marill.

Feb 13, 2012 · This was always my favorite rumor was that there was a Pikablu, and then everyone just expanded on it at my school to Pikagreen and Pikared and all kinds of stupid things like that, and they were all different elements. Then there was the surfing Pikachu rumor that became a thing in Pokemon Yellow. So that made my childhood awesome.

I was in grade 5 and 6 in 1999 and 2000 when Pokemon Gold and Silver’s release was being hyped through the moon and all kinds of crazy rumors were going around message boards and chat rooms. Pikablu was probably my favorite. All kinds of chatter around school yards everywhere about how we can obtain this super rare “Pokegod” named Pikablu.

Dec 4, 2021 · It was the early years of the internet, but Pikablu became such a popular rumour that even official english translated merchandise called Marill "Pikablu"! I remember because one of my friends ran up to me with a story book for the 1st Pokemon movie and showed me a picture of Marill from the movie with the caption calling him "Pikablu".
