Idaho Phacelia is a tall plant whose purple flowers are borne on a spike-like stem. As with other phacelias, the flowers are on coiled stemlets that are responsible for an alternate common name, "scorpion-weeds" for plants in this genus.

Mar 16, 2022 · Phacelia is a group of sun-loving annuals with showy flowers, mainly from the western states of North America. Some are only a few inches high and spread along the ground while others are several feet in height, bearing bell-shaped or tubular flowers in shades of blue, purple, mauve, or white.
In Idaho, Phacelia inconspicua is found on the volcanic buttes and foothills of the Upper Snake River Plain and adjacent Pioneer Mountains. It often grows on concave, moderately steep and sheltered, northeast to east facing aspects where snowdrifts persist late into the spring.
General: Lacy phacelia is a native annual forb in the Hydrophyllaceae family. The stems are erect or semi-erect and succulent, glandular with short stiff hairs. The height varies from 1 to 3 feet.
Identification Tips: Phacelia minutissima is a distinctive annual with unequal calyx segments, entire leaves, and filaments that do not extend beyond the corolla. Range: Mountains of Elko Co., NV and Owyhee Co., ID; disjunct in the Wallowa Mts. of OR, the mountains of central ID, and WA.
Atwood’s phacelia is a winter annual forb with one to several stems. It grows to a height of 36 cm (14 in) tall. The leaves are 5 to 25 cm (2 to 10 in) long and deeply lobed.
