Apr 13, 2024 · I have one Parker 45 with a 14k gold nib that was made in England in the early 1970s. That nib is slightly ‘bouncy’ - it is not a ‘flex’ nib, but it does give a bit of line-variation. I have read that the gold nibs on later Parker 45s, especially ones made in the USA, were very firm.

Apr 1, 2008 · One of the great things about Parker 45 pens is the interchangeable nib. Just like modern Parker Sonnets and Pelikan pens which you have to pay a premium for, the 45 is a workhorse. They are easy to maintain and very easy to clean. If you happen to find a good 45 out in the rough, sometimes you can score a big gain after some serious TLC.

Oct 15, 2022 · (I follow Inkysloth's method). Otherwise, just find a Parker 45 and buy it. They are better pens than nearly any "modern" pen selling new for less than $100. They take any sort of Parker converter, and they were Parker's first converter pen, and the industry's first successful cartridge/converter pen.

Jan 16, 2008 · After years of seeing them from afar, I have bought 5 Parker 45's in the last three months. It is a wonderful pen. The weight and balance is wonderful and the nibs are surprisingly good and fluid. Out of the five nibs, I only had one dud and it was easy to locate a replacement.

Nov 26, 2010 · So popular that Parker made expensive versions with fancy material. So effective that Parker used the design ideas in their high-end Parker 75, and later pens. Read Tony F's "Parker Pens.net" site about the Parker 51 and 61; then read about the 45 and 75 to see the changed thinking.
Parker 45 Flighter Review - The Fountain Pen Network
Jun 22, 2011 · Parker 45 - a great review of a wonderful pen. I discovered this classic lowcost - but longrunning pen from Parker very late, after decades of using almost exclusively Pelikan fountainpens (Pelikan in general really great design, engineering and handcraft).
The Unsung Virtues of the Parker 45 - The Fountain Pen Network
Sep 24, 2021 · In reading all over this forum, not by any means just here in the Parker corner, I find praise for the lowly 45. I have had one since c.1990 and many times the cartridges have dried in it. Cleaning and restoring flow with a new cartridge is a whizz, and this pen is still going as strong as ever. ...

Jan 8, 2011 · Quite a few new ventures failed in the market, not just UK Parker's 45 TX. Incidentally, Parker uses the TX designation to describe at least one other pen with the same kind of finish, in this case a blue matte epoxy over (I would think) brass. I can't remember which it is, but for a while at least it occurred in Parker's naming system.

Jul 5, 2017 · A Parker 45 flighter will of course fit all of these characteristics except the first one - I wouldn't want to lose one! Here is an assortment of Parker 45s with only a few duplications, including a half-demonstrator, a full demonstrator, some Argentinian Parker 61-style clips, a few Coronets and two TXs (which I would carry around every day if ...
Parker 51 VS Parker 45 - Parker - The Fountain Pen Network
Sep 3, 2009 · 45 is thinner-- whether this is good or bad is up to you. 45 has interchangible points, which makes it a little easier to swap out a bad point... if you get a bad point, and can find a replacement. 51 has a more ink capacity, but demand a bottle. 45 takes cartridges (handy, but more disposable junk) and converters (further reduced capacity).
