Onshape has been acquired by PTC
Congratulations, but this makes me very worried. I escaped PTC Creo and switched over to Onshape and it has been incredible. Getting Creo installed and setup with PDM took 6 calls and multiple days. No to mention the VAR who wanted to come by all the time to upsell. I sincerely hope PTC leaves you guys alone and lets Onshape continue to be great.

Oct 27, 2019 · Onshape uses Parasolid kernel which is now owned by Siemens (Siemens NX is a competitor of PTC) PTC will need to recoup their 470mil cost and clearly this will not happen from the licensing fees of just 5000 users. I think they will expand their kernel and make Creo or an incarnation of Creo available online, just like Onshape is.
CAM coming to Onshape.
Sep 1, 2022 · To echo NikNYC's comment will CAM studios be restricted to pro licenses, I know there teams at my school that do cad in onshape but are forced to export to fusion 360 for CAM at the moment, would be fantastic if we and teams like use were able to do everything in one ecosystem, looks super cool otherwise, looking forward to it!!!

As long as Onshape continues to improve and operate independently of Creo and PTC (at least from a customer point of view), then I see a place for Onshape. By the way (this comment is aimed at everybody), after my students use Onshape, almost to the student they hate going back to SW, Creo, or any other CAD system.

My biggest hope is that Onshape can persuade PTC to bring the Creo licensing procedures into the 21st century. Honestly, Creo has terrible licensing! Fingers crossed 😁 Ultimately this sale is a vindication of the vision that led to Onshape starting up. PTC sees a value where Dassault continue to push totally silly messages and cloud software ...
Creo+ (new SaaS Creo) — Onshape
Creo+ and Onshape are both part of the PTC team, and more tech sharing will follow over time. I fully believe Onshape and Creo will both be alive and well decades from now, and both will be market leaders. They will share a lot of code, but will have important differences and focus on somewhat different objectives.

PTC tech infusion? - Onshape
One of the stated pros of the acquisition was that PTC could inject a lot of their mature tech into Onshape to accelerate the expansion of tools. Is there any official public list of what these things are? I'd personally get a lot out of native freeform surface modeling, and leveling up all of the surfacing tools in general, and native FEA tools.
