The Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) N1s was a class of 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" steam locomotives built for the Pennsylvania's Lines West. 60 engines were built between December 1918 and November 1919, and worked heavy mineral freight to and from ports on the Great Lakes until their retirement in the late 1940s. All examples were scrapped by 1950.

The PRR was one of the few American railroads to use this type of firebox. Most steam locomotive had a boiler that was continuously round from the front of the locomotive through and including the firebox.

You are looking at a very important model in the history of Brass Model Trains. This is the Gem Samhongsa PRR N1s. What is special about it? Well, this is the first model imported to the United States that was built by Samhongsa.

PRR N1s and the Brier Hill Plate Mill I recently saw this photo on an ebay listing for a brass locomotive and noticed the building in the background. The caption says the picture was taken in 1919, which would have been one year after the Brier Hill plate mill in Girard, OH was completed.

Feb 2, 2003 · On the PRR, the 2-10-2 was exclusively a Lines West design, and used for drag freights. N1s: 35 of these were built by Alco and 25 by Baldwin to a PRR Lines West design. They had huge, swollen looking boilers and were very impressive locomotives. N2s: These were USRA Heavy 2-10-2 locomotives built by both Alco and Baldwin.
