Oct 17, 2016 · K5DH here. Our local fire dispatch (Denton County, Texas) went P25 Phase II and I'm now forced to buy a new scanner. My three top choices (in order) are the Uniden 536HP (about $500-ish), Uniden 996P2 (about $365-ish), and the Whistler 1098 (about $510-ish). I don't consider myself to be a "scanner hobbyist".

Jan 23, 2021 · A Pro 96 would do nicely for P25. I had a Pro 96 back in the day and got lots use out of it and also beat the crap out of it. GRE's P25 audio is better than Uniden's P25 audio (not including the SDS100/200) and has AGC in the P25 audio that works well. The audio AGC function can be turned on or off and is on by default.

Mar 4, 2022 · OK, first of all let me say this. I see where the OP says he needs a phase 2 P25 capable scanner. However I also see where Jn2022 joined the RR on Feb 26, 2022 and has 3 posts and may not be aware of the Unication G4 or G5 Pagers. Everytime someone mentions Simulcast distortion it's brought up that you have to get the SDS 100 or the SDS 200.

Just a couple of points I'd make: If you want to monitor a P25 simulcast (aka LSM) system, you'd definitely want to use the OP25 software. OP25 has the demodulator that is compatible with simulcast systems. A lesson I learned is to use the Nooelec RTL-SDR dongles.

If simulcast is an issue in your area I'd strongly recommend the Uniden SDS series scanners as they are the only scanners designed to mitigate the ugly effects of simulcast distortion. Jan 5, 2015 · like suggests, check witrh ac power, maybe you can take the batteries out ande go with ac only. Something small, I am sure. The 436 scanner does type 1 and type 2, over kill for you at this moment, though in the scanner world, this can change anytime. All depends on the salesman visiting the city council. I am partial to the 396xt.
