Courtesy of House Planning Help and Ben Adam-Smith, we bring you the Ostro Passivhaus. Architects Martin McCrae and Mhairi Grant made use of their design background and DIY skills to create themselves a stunning Passivhaus home.

The house takes the form of a Siberian larch-clad box with a flat felt roof system incorporating a Sedum green roof and a dramatic south-facing double height space. The orientation and balanced proportion of windows both maximise the views and minimise the risk of overheating in the summer months.

A semi-rural site located just outside a Conservation Area in Kippen, west of Stirling in central Scotland. Previously part of a historical fue, the land had once been owned by the local veterinarian surgery, but had since been used as domestic garden ground. Access is via a c.90m shared driveway from the north.
