Feb 11, 2024 · No tattoos really means no tattoos. Covering up a small tattoo with a small bandaid is the limit of what’s acceptable. A small bandaid is acceptable because you could technically actually have a small cut or scrape that actually requires a bandaid. With anything bigger than that, you would never go to an onsen and share bath water.

Feb 23, 2023 · Low tier onsen/ hotel ofuro / local sento: 80% wash, 10% rinse, 10% don't even bother The weiredset I once got, at a Mitsui garden ofuro: some ojisan washed, but didn't rinse and went in the bath full of soapy foam, then he slowly watched his soap wash away in the bath with a big smile on his face.

Aug 28, 2023 · The Sakura 2 room has ensuite private onsen, in-room dining (this was more fun and romantic than we anticipated), two big rooms plus a little private sitting room, and the fluffiest most wonderful futons for sleeping. They may be making an enormous amount of money, but this order of mine has been a disaster from the get go and has left me with a horrible impression of the company. Very strict. To the point I was only able to go to Kinosaki Onsen for our onsen soaking, and I’m glad we did so. Even then I was only one of a few people who had tattoos. I’d highly recommend the detour. It’s a charming little town with 7 public baths that you can dip in with no fear of offending anyone.

What matters is that it's covered. There are also several tattoo friendly onsen, however even with those there are two different types: one you could enter with a bodysuit of tatts but the other only allows smaller tattoos to be visible. You might have some trouble finding tattoo friendly onsen in the countryside but there are some in Tokyo.

Dec 13, 2023 · Kurokawa Onsen is very small and remote. The onsen there are also very bare-bones. Many of the ones in town are single pools with barely any facilities (as in, you walk literally outside, there are a couple of baskets for items, you use a bucket of cold water and some soap to rinse off, and then you soak in the small pool for a few minutes).
