When you get it, it topples, giving you an extended opening and makes Ebony move slower like an HR Odogaron. This should make the fight a lot easier.

Odogaron is the soft 'wall' of the Vale that's intended to trip you up a bit and force you to learn how to handle quick attack patterns in preparation for other fights to come. As others have said however he's rather toothless once you get used to his attacks.

Try going on an expedition to Rotten Vale and just spend the whole time collecting tracks. That'll give you investigations which may give you Odogaron since the investigations are for monsters in the region, not specific to the track you collect.

It does give you protective polish and speed sharpening, which is nice. I can't really think of any other progression sets that have enough DPS skills.
