The Black Eagle tank (Russian: Чёрный Орёл, Chyornyy Oryol) or Object 640 was a presumed prototype main battle tank based upon the T-80UM-2, developed by the KBTM design bureau of Omsktransmash in the late 1990s for the Russian Federation. The Black Eagle was cancelled, with all production and development halted in 2009.

The “object 640” also known as a “Black Eagle” was created in 1990-s by the designers of Omsk KBTM (transport machine building bureau). The tank belongs to a new generation and realizes a lot of innovative constructional decisions and arrangement which differs it from all classical Russian and western tanks.

Dec 27, 2023 · Would the Ob. 640 even be better than its predecessors? I mean sure it has the better APFSDS but is it too expensive or complex to manufacture compared to T-80BVM or T-90M? It looks like it may have more Gun depression but does that even matter in the scope of Russian combat which is meant to take place on the European plain?
