Korg's 01/W workstation synthesizer debuted in 1991 as the follow-up to the popular M1. The 01/W was the second chapter in Korg's workstation legacy, which goes on to this day with the Triton and Oasys series.

Synths ⇝ Korg ⇝ Korg 01/W. The 01/W can be expanded with XSC/XPC expansion card pairs containing a PCM waveform data card and a performance data card. The 01/WFD is an otherwise identical version with more sequencer memory and a floppy drive. It is also available in rackmount form as the 01R/W.

The 01 portion of the Cliff Canyon website was created in 1998 for two reasons: to learn how to build a website, and to document what I learned about my new 01/W. The website also served to promote my first book, the self-published Korg 01/W Percussion Manual. Unfortunately (for me), 1998 was also the year Korg discontinued the 01/W series.

This is the KORG 01/W Pro X. It is a 88-key synthesizer with over 100 sounds. The Korg 01 came as a bunch of different models in the early 90's, but the 01/W Pro X has a weighted piano action, and the same Korg acoustic piano voice found on the 01/WPro.

The 03R/W was Korg's way of having a General MIDI (GM) synth on the market until the follow-up to the 01 appeared. It is a sound module that powers-up with GM Progs and Drum Kit in the proper GM Program numbers (which is totally different from the 01.)
