Nosy Ankarea. Nosy Ankarea is surrounded by coral reefs while Les Quatres Freres is made up of four imposing silver basalt rocks, covered by hundreds of nesting seabirds including brown boobies, northern gannets, frigatebirds and white-tailed tropic birds.

The archipelago is made up of 5 islands: the Great Mitsio, Nosy Lava, Nosy Ankarea, the four brothers and Nosy Tsara Banjina. The Ankarea Marine Protected Area (MPA) is located in the northern Mozambique Channel off the northwestern Madagascar coast. The area is known for having the highest richness in coral species in the Western Indian Ocean. Ankarea Marine Protected Area comprises the large island of Nosy Mitsio and an archipelago of 16 smaller islands.
