
GER Class E22 - Wikipedia
The GER Class E22 was a class of twenty 0-6-0 T steam locomotives designed by James Holden for the Great Eastern Railway. They passed to the London and North Eastern Railway at the grouping in 1923 and received the LNER classification J65.

In 1889 James Holden designed his Class E22 (LNER J65) tank locomotive for light passenger duties. Similar to his earlier Class T18 (LNER J66) locomotives, the E22s were of lighter construction and had smaller cylinders.

Under the LNER the E22s became class J-65. As with other ex-GER locomotives, additional coal rails were later fitted, cast chimneys replaced the stovepipes, ‘pop’ safety valves replaced the Ramsbottoms, and steel cab roofs were fitted.

Mar 16, 2025 · The GER E22 was first built in 1889 as light passenger engines and were basically the GER T18s but lighter and with smaller cylinders. The class came in two batches. a batch of 10 in 1889 and another batch of 10 in 1893.
