Effective August 27, 2013, most prescribers are required to consult the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) Registry when writing prescriptions for Schedule II, III, and IV controlled substances. The PMP Registry provides practitioners with direct, secure access to view dispensed controlled substance prescription histories for their patients.

Any New York State licensed prescriber or pharmacist may access the PMP Registry. Each prescriber/ pharmacist/ authorized designee must have an individual Health Commerce System Account (HCS) to gain access to the PMP Registry. Jun 20, 2018 · In 1973, the Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement (BNE) of New York State (NYS) established a prescription monitoring program (PMP). At the time, data collection was limited to schedule II controlled substances, but it was later expanded to include benzodiazepines (1989) and eventually all prescriptions for controlled substances (2007).

On-Line PMP is available to prescribers. The updated PMP goes live. Pharmacies and dispensing practitioners required to report all controlled substance prescription data daily. Prescribers are required to access the PMP prior to writing a controlled substance prescription.

Jan 1, 2021 · In 2020, the state population was 20,215,751, and there were 125,159 DEA-registered prescribers and 5,513 DEA-registered dispensers. A total of 14 types of reports are available from the PDMP. Funding of the PDMP is provided by a CDC grant. The budget amount for 2021 is not reported.
