The Division of the Fire Marshal (DFM) and its predecessor played a major role in all these efforts to protect NIH staff, patients, and visitors, as well as the NIH Mission. Major milestones in the organization and development of fire prevention and protection at the NIH are as follows:

You may remain anonymous, but it helps DFM gather information if we have a contact. If you are unsure whether a situation is hazardous, DFM would always prefer that you ask.

Aug 24, 2018 · DFM protects patients, employees, visitors and firefighters—a typical mission of any fire marshal operation. However, DFM is also charged with helping keep the Clinical Center accredited and protecting the biomedical research mission.

DFM made immediate changes as COVID-19 hit, including rotation of staff, creative scheduling, instituting some telework and authoring many public service articles (several with specific pandemic-related precautions). The most innovative change was the institution of remote construction inspections.
