Mubende is a district in the Central Region of Uganda. The town of Mubende is the site of the district headquarters. The district was reduced in size in July 2005 with the creation of the Mityana District and reduced again in 2019 when Kassanda District was carved out of it.

The total Population of Mubende District as contained in the 2014 Population and Housing Census was 688,819 with 346,525 males and 342,294 females. When compared to the 2002 population census’ results, the population in the district grew by 4.06% over a period of 12 years.

Mubende District is located in the Central region of Uganda. It borders with Kassanda district in the East, Kiboga and Kyankwanzi in the North, Sembabule and Gomba in the South, Kyegegwa and Kakumiro in the West.

Mubende Municipality is a hilly place with ragged terrain. The place is commonly known for the 99 hills upon which the historic palace of the Chwezi dynasty was established in around 1300AD. The town Centre is located at the foothills of these magnificent hills, this affects the settlements with drainage and off-runs of heavy storm water.

Mubende was part of Buganda Kingdom at Independence in 1967. Following abolition of Kingdoms in 1967, It became on of the districts carved out of Buganda Kingdom. Location.
