Apr 16, 2019 · Once again a kind BMF member pointed out this 1851 Minie rifle for sale. I’ve been looking for a P/51 for years, especially one with a bore and stock in shootable condition. This one definitely meets that criteria. The four groove rifling is strong and well defined with a very good muzzle crown (for what it is).

Nov 28, 2011 · I know this is a rather old post but I just opened it. I have a 3-groove P51 rifle, with an 1854 dated lock. Although all the references mention 4-groove rifling for the P51, it is assumed that the later ones had the number of grooves reduced, at the same time the Altered Muskets were reduced. My rifle has a .702 bore, so it is a P51.

Mar 27, 2020 · The rifle has the correct Lovell bayonet catch, and obvious wear signs from having had a bayonet attached and removed many times. The stock is extremely sound, of very solid, hard wood (I assume walnut root) and the fit of barrel, lock, and stock are all of the highest quality, as though assembled under the careful eyes of Lovell himself.
