Historically, only five British university libraries have hosted this conference: Oxford (1980 & 2008), Cambridge (1983 & 2017), Durham (1989), Birmingham (1993), and SOAS (1997).

MELCom International attracted 115 guests from 23 countries (13 outside of Europe), with 87 joining the event at the Aga Khan Centre. Thanks to the Aga Khan Library's efforts to promote the conference, 34% of the attendees participated for the first time this year.
