Martin David Davis (March 8, 1928 – January 1, 2023) was an American mathematician and computer scientist who contributed to the fields of computability theory and mathematical logic. His work on Hilbert's tenth problem led to the MRDP theorem.

Jan 2, 2023 · Martin David Davis, born in the Bronx on March 8, 1928, emeritus professor at the New York University since 1996, an eminent logician and one of the boosters of the computability field, died on January 1, 2023 — a few hours later, also his wife Virginia passed away.

Martin Davis passed away on January 1, 2023 at the age of ninety-four. Professor Davis was a faculty member at Courant from 1965 until his retirement in 1996. He was instrumental in the founding of our Computer Science department in 1969, serving as a charter member.
