In June of 1981, the Jewish Agency, in cooperation with Yeshiva Aish HaTorah, sponsored and founded the settlement of Maalei Amos. We were among the first ten families. Water, food supplies, gas and electricity could not always be counted on in those days.

Dec 11, 2016 · Ma’ale Amos is one of the only chareidi yishuvim in the West Bank and was named after the Navi (prophet) Amos, who some say lived in the nearby village we know today as Tekoa. The fact that it wasn’t too far from Yerushalayim aroused his interest as well.

Maaleh Amos stands as the pioneering haredi (ultra-Orthodox) community within the heart of Gush Etzion. Its inception traces back to a dedicated group of yeshiva students from Aish ha-Torah in Jerusalem, who bestowed it with the name of the ancient prophet Amos.
