Feb 7, 2025 · For MC Cable, PI No. 2883-NFPA 70-2023 reads almost identical to the PI on NM cable, just with the name changed. You could still use tie wire if UL 2239 has standards for tie wire. You'll just need to get UL 2239 listed tie wire. I'll leave it to you to check UL 2239 on what it has to say on the topic. Cheers, Wayne

Oct 28, 2011 · AC cable typically has no ECG, just the bondstrip-and-cable armor. However, the armor of the AC cable can be used as an ECG. MC cable consists of an outer jacket of thin metal armor and is filled with individually insulated conductors which are contained in a jacket. MC cable has an ECG, but the armor isn't suitable for grounding.

Nov 14, 2024 · AC is armored cable made with paper individually wrapping the conductors and a thin aluminum bonding strip which with the armor serves as the EGC. BX is a slang name for AC. Metal Clad or MC cable is different. Regular MC has a green EGC, MC-ap has a #10 aluminum conductor in contact with the armor to create the EGC.

Sometimes chnages in contract occur without detailing each item, such as the type MC (or steel compression couplings vs cast). I was curious if Type MC automatically covered the steel aspect, or is no MC spec complete without a steel or aluminum choice.

When I did a search for 'through penetrating products' I found datasheets for various firestop assemblies, and those datasheets specified the specific MC cable they were listed with.

Nov 9, 2020 · Conductors within Southwire Armorlite MC cable are THHN/THWN, so that tells me you're good for damp locations with the conductors. Just check the MC jacket. NEC states you can use MC in wet locations as long as it meets what the text says. NEC 330.10(A). What kind of connectors are you using which would not be acceptable?
