Dec 28, 2015 · The M16A1E1 has a MAJORITY of A1 parts, that were over time phased to the A2 parts before the production began. A2 features included the use of the tapered slip ring, A2 flash hider, the peel washer (with/without the crush washer), A2 hammer/trigger assembly (with both auto/burst disconnectors), A2 handguards, 0.750 diameter FSB/HB, A2 length ...

  2. M16A1E1 Build Guidance > AR-15 / M-16 Retro Forum > AR15.COM

Dec 4, 2013 · IIRC those are later M16A1E1's, close to the final A2 design. The first ones were A1 uppers with A2 furniture and A1 profile 1:7 barrel. (Model 711?) These were used in the interim while the A2 upper was finalized. Very nice upper btw boywonder! Very cool stuff.

  3. M16A1E1 or E2 or PIP? > AR-15 / M-16 Retro Forum > AR15.COM

Dec 9, 2007 · The late model M16A1E1s are proto-645s, and the developmental designation gets changed to M16A2 when the decision is made to adopt the weapon (M16A1E1 -> M16A2). As for other M16A1EX designations, the only one I've ever heard of is the M16A1E3 (which would imply an E2), but this comes from Duncan Long's AR-15/M16 Sourcebook, which has numerous ...

  4. Full story on A1 uppers with shell deflector? - AR15.COM

Oct 13, 2014 · Guys - don't forget the M16A1E1 - the official transitional model between the two. A2 furniture, 1:7 twist barrel, (first ones were A1 spec pencil barrels) and "C7" upper...although many, many A1s were converted to M16A1E1 spec to fill the gap. IIRC there was an issue with getting enough A2 uppers.

Jan 28, 2005 · The M16A1E1 was then designated the M16A2. I would guess some pictures of M16A1E1s were taken before they were rebuilt with the new upper receiver with A2-rear sights and case deflector. From The Black Rifle, by R. Blake Stevens and Edward C. Ezell, page 347. The section is titled JSSAP's Product Improvement Program ("PIP") Rifle - the "M16A1E1"

  9. Differences between M16A1 (603?) and C7 uppers? - AR15.COM

Sep 9, 2022 · I’m not an expert on retro guns, but I carried an M16A1 for the first 4 years that I was in the Army. The M16A1 doesn’t have a brass deflector on it, other than that I think that they’re the same, but there are a lot of guys in here with a lot more knowledge than I’ll ever have.
