Dec 4, 2013 · IIRC those are later M16A1E1's, close to the final A2 design. The first ones were A1 uppers with A2 furniture and A1 profile 1:7 barrel. (Model 711?) These were used in the interim while the A2 upper was finalized. Very nice upper btw boywonder! Very cool stuff.

Oct 13, 2014 · Guys - don't forget the M16A1E1 - the official transitional model between the two. A2 furniture, 1:7 twist barrel, (first ones were A1 spec pencil barrels) and "C7" upper...although many, many A1s were converted to M16A1E1 spec to fill the gap. IIRC there was an issue with getting enough A2 uppers.

Sep 9, 2022 · I’m not an expert on retro guns, but I carried an M16A1 for the first 4 years that I was in the Army. The M16A1 doesn’t have a brass deflector on it, other than that I think that they’re the same, but there are a lot of guys in here with a lot more knowledge than I’ll ever have.
